Faculty and Research
At the University of Sustainability, our professors combine interdisciplinary expertise with scientific curiosity to advance a sustainable future. Together with research partners in Austria and abroad, they develop innovative projects and studies that address current ecological and social challenges. Their teamwork, practical orientation, and shared commitment to change shape the university’s research culture.
Scientific excellence
meets practice
At the center of our academic and research activities are two core areas: Business Administration and (Economic) Psychology.
Our faculty members are committed to advancing these fields through rigorous research methods, interdisciplinary collaboration between our faculty and scholars around the world, and cross-sector cooperation with regional and international partners, in order to achieve results that not only enhance theoretical understanding but also offer practical applications.
We base our research activities on the following core principles:
Sustainability lies at the heart of our university’s activities, including research. We follow this principle in regard to how, what, and why we research.
- How?
As part of our sustainable research approach, researchers rely on ethical research practices, choose digital and energy-efficient solutions, handle our research-related resources responsibly, promote inclusive research activities, emphasize the importance of cross-domain, interdisciplinary, international, and cross-sector collaborations, and work with partners who share our sustainable and ethical values. Our transdisciplinary research approach aims to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and practical applications for sustainability. - What?
Our faculty engages in studies that promote environmentally friendly and socially responsible business and economic practices or, from a psychological perspective, support individual well-being and sustainable behaviors in society. In their research, our scholars, for example, seek to understand why, despite sufficient scientific knowledge on issues such as the risks of climate change over recent decades and despite rapid technological progress, actions toward sustainable development remain insufficient. - Warum?
In line with the mission and values of the university, we aim for our research to make a contribution to our environment and society. We focus on research projects addressing global challenges aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, such as climate change, mental health crises, or economic inequality. Furthermore, we actively collaborate with regional and international organizations to ensure that research findings have practical, real-world applications that benefit communities.
Sustainability lies at the heart of our university’s activities, including research. We follow this principle in regard to how, what, and why we research.
- Our researchers consistently follow the principle of “quality over quantity” in their scholarly work. This pursuit of excellence is reflected in the publication of their research findings in some of the world’s most renowned and influential academic journals.
- Ensuring high research quality is a central component of the mission and values of the University of Sustainability. Our researchers are actively involved in the international research community, participate in international conferences, and continuously contribute to academic discourse. They are regularly invited by internationally recognized research institutions and present their work at leading academic conferences and research colloquia — fostering the exchange of ideas and the development of new perspectives.
- Business Administration Faculty members maintain long-standing relationships with leading international and regional academic organizations relevant to their fields. Through research presentations and the co-organization of colloquia and events, the Business Administration faculty has built lasting relationships with world-class academic associations — including AOM (Academy of Management), AAA (American Accounting Association), EURAM (European Academy of Management), EAA (European Accounting Association), EGOS (European Group for Organizational Studies), EIASM (European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management) VHB (Verband der Hochschullehrer:innen für Betriebswirtschaft).
- Similarly, our Psychology faculty members are actively engaged in events and initiatives of the following professional associations, where they make valuable contributions: ACR (Association for Consumer Research), EMAC (European Marketing Academy), IAREP (International Association for Economic Psychology), IAAP (International Association of Applied Psychology), DGPs (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Psychologie) ÖGP (Österreichische Gesellschaft für Psychologie).
- The University of Sustainability – Charlotte Fresenius Private University emphasizes the importance of continuous research development through regular research seminars in which both our scholars and invited external speakers present their current work, receive valuable feedback, and exchange research ideas and experiences.
- In their work, our faculty members demonstrate methodological rigor (mastery of statistical methods and programming languages, quantitative and qualitative research methods, etc.) and value modern research infrastructure (e.g., EEG laboratory).
- Our faculty members have gained extensive international experience throughout their careers, whether through previous academic appointments, ongoing part-time positions, regular participation in international conferences and research seminars at globally renowned research institutions, or through their personal professional paths.
- We have built a rich network of co-authors around the world and participate in various third-party-funded international research projects.
- The University of Sustainability – Charlotte Fresenius Private University is a member of international research networks and alliances that focus on sustainability within their core research areas (e.g., Network for Business Sustainability).
- Regular research collaborations with practice partners, including professional associations (e.g., Controller Institute), interest groups (e.g., alumni events), individual for-profit and non-profit organizations (e.g., Medical University of Innsbruck, Landesklinikum Stockerau).
- Dissemination of research to a broader public through contributions to the press, social media, and local public events.
